Volunteering with the RHC, means volunteering for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM). As such, there are some procedures and protocols we all must abide by. Whether you are interested in volunteering for a lift or to count some fish, this page has all your volunteer resources.
Volunteering with us, means volunteering for the RI DEM! Please download, sign and return the Volunteer Release Waiver.
After downloading and signing, send your filled waiver to the email below. All done? You're ready to volunteer with the RHC!

The RI DEM requires volunteer lifters to obtain a lifting permit. If you're interested, please sign up at the link below, and the RHC will do the rest!
Interested in counting herring and contributing valuable data to RI DEM? Check out this virtual training on counting procedure and protocols below. Data collected from volunteer counts is used to estimate the total migration of herring each year!
After counting fish, Volunteers will have the option of two data entry collection methods. Volunteers can either utilize their own paper RI DEM data sheet (which will be circulated after attending a training) or enter the data via the RI DEM link below.
